The Best Marketing Month You’re Probably Ignoring

Aug 14, 2026

When most salon owners think about marketing, their minds immediately jump to the holidays.

By October, calendars are filling up with holiday promotions, gift card campaigns, and reminders for clients to book before the end of the year. It makes sense. It’s one of the busiest seasons in our industry, and everyone is competing for the same attention.

But right now, in the middle of August, the conversation feels very different.

Summer vacations are winding down. Kids are heading back to school. Schedules are beginning to settle into a new rhythm, and for many salons, this stretch simply feels like something to get through before business picks back up.

I actually think that’s one of the biggest missed marketing opportunities of the entire year.

Not because August is exciting.......because it’s incredibly predictable.

Every year, life starts to shift around this time. Families move back into routines. Calendars fill with school events, practices, meetings, and activities. Clients begin looking in the mirror after a summer of vacations, pool days, and stretched-out appointments, realizing it’s probably time for a refresh.

The interesting part is that you don’t have to create that demand. It’s already there.

Your clients are already thinking about getting back on schedule. They’re wondering if it’s time to touch up their color, schedule a haircut before school pictures, or finally book the appointment they’ve been putting off since June.

The question isn’t whether they’re thinking about it.... its whether your salon is the first one that comes to mind.

I think we sometimes misunderstand what good marketing is supposed to do. We assume it’s about convincing people to buy something they weren’t already planning to buy. In reality, the best marketing simply meets people where they already are.

It reminds them.

It helps them.

It makes the next step easy.

That’s why timing matters so much.

By the time November arrives, every business is trying to capture attention. Every inbox is full of promotions. Every social media feed is packed with holiday offers and reminders to book before it’s too late.

August doesn’t have that problem.

There’s less noise, which means thoughtful communication has a much better chance of standing out.

That communication doesn’t have to be elaborate, either.

It might be an email reminding guests that now is the perfect time to get back into a regular appointment rhythm before fall schedules become hectic. It could be a quick text to someone you haven’t seen since early summer. Maybe it’s your front desk team reaching out to guests who usually visit every eight weeks but have quietly fallen off schedule.

Sometimes it’s as simple as a stylist saying, “Let’s get your next appointment booked now before life gets busy again.”

None of those moments feel pushy.

They feel helpful...And that’s the difference.

The best marketing rarely feels like marketing at all. It feels like someone was paying attention.

As salon owners, we often spend so much time thinking about the next promotion that we forget one of the most valuable things we can do is simply stay connected to our clients. A thoughtful reminder at the right time will almost always outperform a loud promotion at the wrong time.

Before you write August off as a slower month, spend a few minutes thinking about your clients instead of your calendar.

What’s changing in their lives right now?

What are they already thinking about?

How could your salon make that transition just a little easier?

Because great marketing doesn’t interrupt people’s lives.

It steps into the conversations they’re already having.

And right now, the conversation for many of your clients is simple:

“It’s probably time to get back into a routine.”

Make sure your salon is part of that conversation.
